Last week was one of the big tech events of the year the CES. More Cureved OLED’s, all types of drones and robots, wearable devices, 3D printing and virtual reality with Oculus Rift. As always a lot of new hype and trends are thrown at us, but what is really to watch out for and keep in mind for the next year. Inside you will find 3 trends you will already experience this year.
The surface 2.0(SUR40) was announced already back at the CES of 2011 and it does not happen often that such an exciting new technology stays under my radar, therefore I want to make it up by dedicating a blog post to it.
It is practically the same product as before only upgraded to this day and age. Full specs can be found here, but the most important upgrade is that the SUR40 now has a 40 inch flat screen that is just over 10 cm thick. Besides this mayor change MS has given the hardware boost and included windows 7. Furthermore it should be mentioned that the price point is expected to go down to $7,600,-. This price point is still a bit to high for home use, but the SUR40 has definitly become more intresting for the business that try to deliver special and unique experiences to their costumers or clients.
With this new surface, and the growing acceptance of touch interfaces, this product seems to be ready to be used on a more wider range. If this post has gotten your attention then please hit the jump to see a video selection I have made on this amazing new product.
Today is the official day of awesomeness, so I wanted to share something, I think, is quite awesome. I came across this like a week ago and it has most Chinese cities in detailed pixelated 3d images. This project is from Baidu done as an alternative to Google and bing maps. They have allready made most Chinese cities into these pixelated 3d maps as can be seen above form Guangzhou. It’s quite nice to browse over the map and see the simcity like graphical wonders. This is especially true if you have spent a long time in such a city like I did.
The link is: http://map.baidu.com/
Since most cannot read Chinese I made a step by step walktrough to get to the 3D Pixel viewer. Just hit the jump to see how to end up there. Also in the end I’ve posted some comparison pictures with photo’s I took during my stay in Guangzhou.
